Recent Baby Plan Graduates

admin / Recent Sessions, Uncategorized / baby boy photos, baby girl photos, baby plan /

baby plan graduateIt’s always a little sad when a baby graduates from our baby plan. We do love to see them grow up, though and we love to look back and how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown! Here are a number of our most recent graduates, with pictures taken at their 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 1 year sessions. All positively adorable!

1 Year Old Expressions

admin / Session Archives, Uncategorized / 12 month babies /

One of the things I love about the 12 month session are those 1 year old expressions.  You can really begin to see their personalities, and they sure let you know when they need to get a point across! Here are just a few of my favorite expressions with photos from various sessions. The captions are my interpretation of what they are trying to say LOL!

12 month faces
“I’m watching you!”
12 month faces
“I just love this little baby sheep.”
12 month faces
“Hold that thought, I”ll be right there!”
12 month faces
“Are you kidding me?”
12 month faces
“My fellow Americans…”
12 month faces
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
12 month faces
“I think I’ll just hang here for a while.”
12 month faces
“What exactly did you mean by that?”
12 month faces
Kissy face
12 month faces
“I’d give you a kiss if you were closer.”
12 month faces
“I think you should stop talking now.”
12 month faces
“Are these the duck lips you wanted?”
12 month faces
“I’m really not sure I should be here right now.”
12 month faces
“Oh no, I think I forgot something.”
12 month faces
“Hah! That’s SO funny!”
12 month faces
The End.

Building our Duck Pond – Easter 2014

admin / Behind the Scenes, News, Uncategorized /

building our duck pondThis year for our Easter sessions, held the weekend of March 22, 2014, we built an actual duck pond – something I’ve wanted to do forever but this year we finally bit the bullet and made it happen. Here is a series of pictures on how we built it and a couple of pictures once we were done. The frame for the pond and the dock we built ourselves (I have access to a couple of very handy guys), the greenery has been purchased over the years and the background is a great, ‘Springy’ one that I have also had for years, it was perfect for this particular set.

Step 1 – we built the frame for the pond. It took us a while to figure out the exact dimensions (turned out to be approximately 7′ x 8′) and the placement of the dock in relation to the background and the camera.

Step 2 – we added the pond liner. We had to spend some time getting it as flat as possible, ‘ironing out’ the wrinkles, and then folding the ends over and under the frame to hold it in place.

Step 3 – we filled the pond with water. As with all projects we ran into a problem with the connection between the hose and the faucet, but it was just a small challenge for our engineer Bob. While it was filling we kept our fingers crossed that there were no pinhole leaks! We filled it with around 3-4 inches of water, and expected that it would take hours to fill since the water pressure in the studio is sketchy at best. But surprisingly it filled up pretty quickly. We then decorated all around the pond with our greenery and rocks and in the pond we placed some underwater greenery and a lot of small pebbles.

The step I missed was my late-night run to AC Moore to pick up a few extra supplies. Got there 10 minutes before closing thank goodness!

Step 4 – the finished product, complete with a couple of props that we used during the sessions.

Below I’ve included a couple of images from the sessions done on March 22 and 23, including the last pictures taken of those hard little workers – the bunnies and the ducks. A great time was had by all. All the sessions went well and we were really happy at how impressed everyone was that we actually managed to build a pond right in the camera room!

New Studio Display

admin / News, Uncategorized / frame sale, studio display /

New studio displayWe just installed a new display in our studio outside our viewing room. The day after we installed it, the frame company we used for many of the wall pieces shut down their wholesale division (perfect timing on our part LOL) so we’re not going to be selling these frames any longer.

But – we will sell the frames we have, both as samples and in stock, at a discount. [intlink id=”5092″ type=”page”]Contact us[/intlink] if you’re interested or let us know the next time you’re in!

The Art and the Magic of Storytelling

admin / Session Stories, Uncategorized / sessions, storytelling /

storytellingI might just be a photographer because I’m a bit of a frustrated writer. My secret life-long goal has always been to write a book. I love the whole process of putting pen to paper and coming up with words that resonate,  entertain and tell stories. Different mediums – words, images and videos – are all capable of storytelling, something we’ve been doing since man learned to communicate. Done well, the art of telling a good story is nothing less than magic.

Some of the most powerful stories tend to be those with words and images. Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words and a picture you love is priceless but pictures and words together give you the best of both worlds. The combination of access into the innermost thoughts of the characters and visual eye candy bring the whole story to life.

So I thought I would take a little time and combine the two mediums I love, pictures and words and give you some insight into what goes on behind a photo shoot in my studio. What’s more fun than looking behind the scenes? Don’t you love peeking behind the curtain? TV shows and movies are on to this whole concept. I’m incredibly drawn to stories where the author or characters at some point discuss how a set was created or what was going on during a particular scene. It’s entertaining and it makes me feel a little privileged, almost as if I’ve been given a back-stage pass.

So I extend to you a Pixel Perfect back-stage pass over the next several weeks as I present – in images and words – a few of my recent photo sessions. We’ll call them ‘Session Stories.’ I was going to try for a daily story over the course of a week but I think that may be a bit ambitious even for me when I run with an idea. So I’m opting for a weekly installment. Stay tuned – the first installment will be coming your way soon.

I hope you are excited to join me on this storytelling journey! My goal is that telling these stories will entertain you, give you some ideas and maybe give new clients some insight into how things work in our studio. Somewhat selfishly this little exercise will give me license to set aside time to write, which I do love. And, this may all lead to some new ideas – always a benefit. As you read the stories I share … please leave a comment or two. It will encourage me to carry on and will help me understand what moves you – and maybe, what doesn’t :).

How will you know when a new Session Story has been created? Here’s a couple of options for you:

  • Watch my Facebook newsfeed. I’ll post blog updates there as they happen. Facebook being Facebook, though, it’s a sad fact that not every fan sees my updates in their newsfeed. Facebook decides what shows up and frankly, only a fraction of my Facebook fans see all my posts. So unless you are visiting my Facebook page every day (good for me, kind of a pain for you) you may miss something if you are depending on watching your own Facebook newsfeed for my updates.
  • Visit our blog every day. Good for my web stats, not efficient for you.
  • Sign up for our blog updates. You’ll get notification via email whenever a new post is made. Look for the blog update signup on the left side of our blog, or check the box once you comment on a post. Or fill out the form below.
